MESSAGE OF THE DAY

1. Biden Won the First Debate

  • There was one leader on the debate stage, and one liar. And there was one president at the debate, and it wasn’t the person who flew in on Air Force One.

    • Voters agree: in CNN’s poll, Americans thought Biden won the debate by a 2 to 1 margin.

    • Even Trump’s staff are “worried” by his performance.

  • Biden took the opportunity to speak directly to the American people. He spoke to:

    • Families about how the crises facing our country are impacting them.

    • Americans who lost family members to COVID-19.

    • Workers struggling to get by because of jobs that moved overseas under Trump’s watch and because Trump inherited a good economy and wrecked it.

  • After the debate, Biden took his message directly to the American people. Traveling by train, Biden met with workers and their families in Ohio and Pennsylvania and talked about what he will do to create jobs and build our economy back better.

  • Trump refused to disavow white supremacists multiple times.

    • Hate groups were celebrating Trump’s answers and using them for recruitment.

  • Biden offered comprehensive plans on the crises plaguing our country. Trump offered only interruptions and lies.

    • Trump was desperate, weak, and angry. He’s losing the race, and on the debate stage he lost his temper. Even the moderator conceded that he couldn’t follow Trump’s nonsensical ranting.

  • Biden demonstrated the leadership and temperament that Americans around the country are looking for.

2. NEW: Unemployment Claims Grow as Trump Puts the Rich Before Workers

  • Trump sees the world from Park Avenue. He looks out for his rich friends and corporate CEOs but has left behind working families.

    • Biden sees the world from his hometown of Scranton. He knows what it means to work hard, and what working people go through to make ends meet.

    • In the past two days, tens of thousands of workers have been laid off — from Disney to American Airlines — as Trump continues to mismanage COVID-19 and hold up a critical economic relief to help working families.

  • Trump’s tax returns show his disdain for workers. While hardworking Americans played by the rules and paid federal income taxes, Trump paid $0 for 11 years and only $750 in 2016 and 2017 — far less than the average teacher, firefighter, or nurse.

    • Trump’s made it easier for the 1% and big corporations to get out of paying their fair share.

      • 83% of the benefits from Trump’s tax law will go to the wealthiest 1%.

      • Nearly 100 of the biggest corporations paid zero taxes after Trump’s tax law.

  • Today, new numbers were released showing nearly 1 in 6 workers (26.5 million Americans) are receiving unemployment assistance, more than the previous week.

    • 1.4 million workers filed new unemployment claims last week.

    • For 28 weeks in a row, more workers have filed unemployment claims than any week during any previous recession.

  • It didn’t have to be this bad but Trump purposely downplayed this virus. We need to get back to normal, but we can’t until we get the virus under control.

    • More than 13 million Americans are out of work

    • More than half of lost jobs haven’t come back

    • Trump is on track to be the worst jobs president in modern history

    • As many as 400,000 small businesses have closed for good

NEWS OF THE DAY

3. 200,000+ Americans Die After Trump Lies About COVID-19

  • A new study finds Trump is the “single largest driver” of coronavirus misinformation in the world. Trump’s lies and insistence on contradicting experts have made this crisis worse, and now more than 207,000 Americans are dead and 7.2 million are infected.

    • Hundreds of Americans are dying every day, but Trump has dismissed the death toll, saying, “It is what it is.

  • Even as Democrats offer to compromise, Trump is refusing to sit down to negotiate relief for the millions of Americans hurt by COVID and his recession, while rushing to confirm a new Supreme Court justice because he wants to overturn the ACA.

  • Trump is on tape admitting that he knew early on that the virus was “deadly,” but that he was “playing it down.”

    • As Trump lied to the American people, he told the truth to Washington insiders — that the coronavirus is “more deadly” than the flu and that it was airborne and highly contagious.

  • And a former senior White House aide confirmed what we know — Trump put his reelection ahead of the health and safety of the American people.

    • Trump rarely attended task force meetings, contradicted his health officials, and wasted months to slow the virus, which “cost lives.”

4. Nomination of Amy Coney Barrett & Future of the Supreme Court

  • While Republicans and Trump have dragged their feet getting relief to the millions of Americans hurt by COVID and Trump’s recession, they are rushing to confirm a new justice because they want to overturn the Affordable Care Act.

  • Trump’s nominee has a track record of ruling against health care, voting rights, workers rights, and more. This nomination risks:

    • Americans’ health care and protections for people with preexisting conditions

    • Women’s right to reproductive health care guaranteed by Roe v. Wade

      • Today, news broke that Barrett signed a statement calling Roe v. Wade “barbaric” and calling for its end, and supported an “extreme anti-choice group” that wants to restrict IVF.

    • The right to vote

    • The right to clean air and clean water

    • The right to equal pay for equal work

    • Workers’ right to collectively bargain

    • DREAMers’ ability to avoid deportation

  • The Supreme Court will hear Trump’s latest attempt to tear down the Affordable Care Act just one week after the election.

    • If Trump succeeds and his justice helps overturn the ACA, 20 million people could lose their health insurance and as many as 133 million Americans with preexisting conditions will lose coverage protections.

    • Trump still has no plan to replace the ACA or protect Americans’ health care.

  • Americans are voting for president in a majority of states — with 2 million votes already cast — and they deserve a say in who selects a successor to Justice Ginsburg.

    • Never before has a Supreme Court Justice been nominated and installed while a presidential election is already underway.

    • The majority of Americans want the winner of the election to select Justice Ginsburg’s replacement.

5. 33 Days Until Election Day, 2 Million Votes Have Been Cast

  • It may be 33 days until November 3, but 2 million votes have already been cast and a majority of states are already voting.

    • Of the 9 million voters who have requested mail ballots in battleground states, Democrats have requested almost twice as many ballots as Republicans.

  • Go to IWillVote.com today to check your registration status, learn how to register to vote and what choices you have to cast your ballot, and find out where and when to vote.

  • Democrats are out-registering Republicans across the country, including in key battleground states like Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.

  • A record number of voters have requested mail-in ballots in numerous states — with Democrats far in the lead.

  • Voters in nearly a dozen states are already voting in person, with huge turnout.

  • Biden’s campaign has launched the biggest voter protection program in history: thousands of staff on the ground, lawyers, and poll watchers throughout the states to ensure every eligible voter can vote.

Dear Friends-

Presidential debates are about having a discussion around competing visions and plans for the country explained, deconstructed and evaluated. What we witnessed last night was the President of the United States devolving the format into a barrage of lies, interruptions, and a round-up posse directive to the Proud Boys that they were so delighted to receive, they’ve updated their logo

After sifting through a lot of the feedback and social and the headlines today, there are some takeaways that we need your help in doing. A lot of people went to bed upset but fired up to see Trump go.  Don’t miss that last part in seeing this as an organizing moment.

Because there was only one leader on the stage of last night’s Presidential debate, and that leader was Vice President Joe Biden. That leader stood up for our lives under the mismanagement of this pandemic and the economy, called out racism and fought to focus on the welfare of our families even as attacks were unleashed against his own family.

Trump had no plan, and Vice President Biden confronted him about that fact. He told a host of lies during the debate on health care, climate change, voting, and jobs but there was one moment when he finally admitted his plans to cut health care. He said outright we’re cutting health care.” We’ve known all along that health care was on the ballot and he has just confirmed it.

The time is now for us to ensure that the folks with knots in their stomachs remember that people have already been voting in record numbers and they are cutting our way disproportionately.  The goal right now is to keep turning people out, helping them to get good information on how to vote (iwillvote.com), and to keep scaling up our voter protection efforts.

Last night’s debate gave us additional fuel and urgency. We need to get our communities to vote and vote early.  Trump has given the orders to a known hate group to stand back and stand by”. They have their orders. But as Princess Philomena Desmond, who is one of the Co-Chairs of the African Diaspora for Biden, said to me today, “Our Joe struck back and he spoke directly to the people which Trump never did. But we have to be prepared for the days ahead”.  Mama Philomena, I agree.  So folks please read down for some of our asks.

We will send out information again next Wednesday, October 7th for the Vice Presidential debate.

In Solidarity,

Mũthoni

TALKERS MESSAGING TOPLINES

Supreme Court

TOPLINE: Justice Ginsburg’s successor will have a profound impact on every part of our lives and our future. The American people have a right to have a say who the Supreme Court Justice is. They aren’t getting that chance. We are in the middle of an election. Tens of thousands have already voted. We should wait and see what the outcome is.

  • For voters, this isn’t about who is sitting on the Court, it’s about the issues that hang in the balance: health care, clean air and water, whether you make equal pay for equal work and the rights of voters, immigrants, women, and workers.

  • Amy Coney Barrett has a written track record of disagreeing with the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision upholding the Affordable Care Act. She critiqued Chief Justice John Roberts’ majority opinion upholding the law in 2012.

  • President Trump is right now fighting in the Supreme Court to strip health coverage away from millions of people in the middle of a global health crisis. The Supreme Court has twice already upheld the Affordable Care Act as constitutional.

  • If Trump succeeds and his appointment votes to scrap the entire Affordable Care Act - insurers could once again discriminate or drop coverage completely for more than 100 million people living with preexisting conditions. Including the 7 million Americans who may have lung scarring and heart damage from COVID-19.

  • The majority of the American people believe the winner of the election should nominate Justice Ginsburg's successor.

  • Millions of voters are already casting their ballots. They should have their voices heard on who serves on the Court.

Health Care

TOPLINE:  President Trump has no health care plan - he wants to take it away. He is right now fighting in the Supreme Court to eliminate the entire Affordable Care Act If he succeeds, he will strip health coverage away from tens of millions of families and to strip away the peace of mind from more than 100 million people with pre-existing conditions.

  • If President Trump has his way, complications from COVID-19 will be the next deniable pre-existing conditions.

  • Since he started running for President, Trump said that he will have a plan to replace the Affordable Care Act and that he’ll have a plan to protect pre-existing conditions. He’s had four years to level with the American people and put forward a plan. Now 40 days to the Election, he’s once again saying trust me - I’ll figure it out later.

  • Simply put: Trump doesn’t have a plan. His only plan he has is to get re-elected.

  • There is only one candidate in the race who fought shoulder to shoulder with President Obama to expand access to health care for more than 20 million Americans and to protect more than 100 million Americans with pre-existing conditions - That’s Joe Biden. And as President, he will build on that work.

COVID-19

200,000 people are dead and 7 million are infected in the United States. We have 4% of the world population and are at 20% of the deaths. And as 1,000 Americans die every day, President Trump says, “It is what it is.” Well “it is what it is” because President Trump you are who you are.

This is the man who said it would be gone by Easter. He said it would go away when it got warm. He said it would end like a miracle. Why would you believe his promises now?  Joe Biden trusts scientists. He trusts vaccines. But he does not trust Donald Trump.

TOPLINE: President Trump failed in the primary responsibility of the President: the duty to protect the safety of the American people. Even worse, he lied to the American people about the danger posed by COVID-19. Trump said he didn’t tell people the truth because he didn't want them to panic. The only person to panic was Donald Trump. He froze in the headlights, and the results were catastrophic for American families.

  • 200,000 people have died, 30 million are out of work and Trump failed to do his job.

  • How many families are missing a loved one at their dinner table – because of his failures?

  • No President whose lies and failures have cost 200,000 Americans their lives should keep his job. Period.

  • If Biden were president now, here’s what he would do:
    1) Everyone in this country would be wearing a mask when around other people.
    2) He’d get the testing fiasco fixed.
    3) Biden would get protective gear to everyone on the front lines
    4) And he’d issue guidelines for our schools and businesses, and get them aid to implement them.

  • Those are four things Trump isn’t doing, and doesn’t have any intention of doing.

  • Tragically, if we continue on the path Trump is on, the worst is not behind us, it’s ahead.

Park Avenue vs. Scranton

TOPLINE: Biden sees this election as Park Avenue versus Scranton.  President Trump can see only as far as Wall Street, and looks down on working people. Biden will build our country back better to help working families, not the super-wealthy and corporations.

  • Joe Biden knows that Wall Street bankers and CEOs didn’t build this country — the middle class and working families did — hardworking people from Scranton and Claymont, small businesses and entrepreneurs and unions built this country.

  • The question for voters across the country: is the Trump economy working for YOU and YOUR FAMILY?

  • President Trump has no intention of making it better for you and your family at home.

  • The top 100 billionaires in America have made more than $300 billion this year.

  • President Trump wants to give them a $30 billion tax break.  He's going to cut their tax rate so they pay a lower rate than a working family making $65,000 a year.

  • Biden is going to make the super-wealthy pay their fair share. And, he’s going to:

    • Enforce “Buy American” rules – for real - so that when we spend American taxpayer dollars it’s on goods made in America -- and penalize companies that ship jobs overseas.

    • Create more jobs by investing in clean energy – windmills and solar plants and electric cars.

    • Raise pay for child care workers and teachers and health care workers.

  • Moody’s Analytics released their analysis of both Joe Biden and President Trump’s economic plans- or as we like to say, the Scranton plan vs. the Park Avenue plan.

  • Key finding of the analysis is that Joe Biden is the jobs creator.

  • Moody’s found that Biden’s plan will create 18.6 million jobs by the end of his first term -- 7 million *more* jobs than President Trump’s plan.

  • Biden’s plan will grow the economy by almost $1 trillion more than Trump’s by 2024.

  • Biden is the one with the strategic plan to grow our economy by investing in working families and our infrastructure. His plan will lead to higher homeownership and billions in more disposable income for American families. That’s what makes our economy healthy in the long-run.

  • Trump only looks out for the super-wealthy and that doesn’t work for the economy in the long run.

President Trump’s Taxes

TOPLINE: President Trump can see only as far as Wall Street, and looks down on working people. If you make under $400,000, you will not pay a penny more in taxes when Joe Biden is president. Period. Contrast that with President Trump who now in the middle of this pandemic is proposing another tax giveaway for the wealthiest Americans.

  • Trump’s tax giveaway went to the super-wealthy and corporations.

    • 83% of the benefits will ultimately go to the top 1% and 40% of the benefits went to foreign investors.

    • 91 Fortune 500 companies paid no federal taxes last year.

  • The top 100 billionaires in America have made more than $300 billion this year.  Donald Trump wants to give them a $30 billion tax break -- in the middle of a pandemic and an economic crisis.

  • $30 billion more, just for those 100 folks.  Trump is going to cut the super wealthy’s tax rate so they pay a lower rate than a working family making $65,000 a year.

  • Joe Biden will make the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share, and invest that revenue in the middle class and growing our economy - expanding access to affordable health care, making community college tuition-free, investing in our public schools, repairing our roads and bridges, and more.

  • Joe Biden is proposing tax cuts for working families:

    • As long as the COVID crisis rages, he will expand the Child Tax Credit to help families. That means a firefighter with three teenagers will receive an additional $3,000 -- or $9,000 total.

    • He’ll expand tax credits for child care, which could mean up to $6,800 in additional tax relief each year for such families.

    • He’ll give first-time homebuyers a $15,000 advanceable tax credit for their down payment.

    • And, he’ll increase tax credits to lower health care premiums, too.

Donald Trump and Race

Trump had multiple chances to say he disowned white supremacy. He refused. Donald Trump fans the flame of white supremacy and racism. It’s his only political strategy.

Equity, equality, and justice – the American creed. We have never lived up to it; but we’ve never stopped trying until this President.

Joe Biden got into this race because of Charlottesville. After seeing hate-filled men with torches spilled out of the woods spewing racism and anti-Semitic bile, Donald Trump said there were “very fine people on both sides.” Those words shocked our conscience and stunned the world.

This summer, after George Floyd was killed, President Trump hid in the White House bunker. Then he ordered force against peaceful protestors outside the White House, gassing Americans to stage a photo op of him holding a Bible outside a church.

1 in 1000 African Americans has been killed by COVID-19, and if Trump doesn't do something fast by the end of year, it will be 1 in 500. This man has done virtually nothing for Black Americans.

TOPLINE: President Trump turns Americans against each other and fuels toxic racism for his own political gain. He has no desire to unite Americans to move our country forward. Division is his primary political strategy. It’s wrong, and it’s not who we are as a country.

  • After neo Nazis and white supremacists marched in Charlottesville, he said there were “very fine people on both sides.”

  • Following the tragic murder of George Floyd, as millions of Americans stood up for healing and justice, Trump actively fanned hate and even encouraged violence.

  • Hate crimes have surged on his watch, he has admitted that he’s trying to keep Black Americans from exercising their sacred right to vote, slandered the Latino community, sought to bar Muslims from even entering the United States, presided over a spike in anti-Semitism, and regularly tries to scapegoat fellow Americans as “the other” in order to distract from his massive failures.

Law and Order with Justice

TOPLINE: Law and order with justice - where everyone is treated fairly. Donald Trump isn’t a law and order president. He’s a president who breaks the law and creates disorder. Joe Biden has condemned violence in every form it takes – while President Trump has failed to stand up to his own supporters and unequivocally condemn violence. Does anyone believe there will be less violence in America if Donald Trump is reelected?

  • When President Trump says, “You won’t be safe in Joe Biden’s America,” he’s talking about what’s happening in President Trump’s America.

  • President Trump failed to protect America so now he is trying to scare America.

  • He owns this chaos yet proudly touts himself as a ‘law and order’ president.

  • When President Trump says “you won’t be safe in Joe Biden’s America”, look around at President Trump’s America:

    • COVID runs unchecked throughout the country and has killed thousands while sending our economy spiraling.

    • The murder rate is up 26% in cities across the nation under Donald Trump.

    • More cops have died of COVID-19 this year than on patrol.

  • President Trump continues to fan the flames of division and encourage chaos.

  • We must stand against violence – in every form it takes:

    • The violence of unwarranted police shootings, excessive force, of extremists, and more.

    • The senseless violence of looting and burning and destruction of property.

  • When President Trump looks at this violence and sees a political lifeline. Joe Biden is offering a different vision. He’s going to bring Americans together to address the challenges our country faces.

Climate Change

When Donald Trump thinks of climate he thinks “hoax”. When Joe Biden thinks of climate change, he thinks jobs- good paying union jobs.

And Joe Biden will rejoin the Paris Climate Accord because without us it’s falling apart. He’ll host a summit for the world’s leading emitters in his first 100 days, and persuade them to up the ante, and increase their emissions goals.

TOPLINE:

  • As a nation, we face one of the most difficult moments in our history. Four historic crises. COVID, the economy, racial justice and climate change - all at the same time.

  • Once again, President Trump fails the most basic duty to this nation -- he fails to protect us. We are not safe in President Trump’s America.

  • Wildfires are burning the suburbs in the West. Floods are wiping out suburban neighborhoods in the Midwest. And, hurricanes are imperiling suburban life along our coasts. The impacts of climate change don't pick and choose red states or blue states.

  • Which makes President Trump’s climate denialism — his disdain of science and facts — all the more confounding.

  • The unrelenting impact of climate change affects every single one of us. But too often the brunt falls disproportionately on communities of color, exacerbating the need for environmental justice.

  • Every American has a fundamental right to breathe clean air and drink clean water.

  • Our economy can’t recover if we don’t build back with more resiliency to withstand extreme weather that will only come with more frequency.

  • When President Trump thinks of climate change, he thinks hoax. When Joe Biden thinks of climate change, he thinks jobs - good paying union jobs.

  • We need a president who respects science, who understands that the damage from climate change is already here, and, unless we take urgent action, will soon be more catastrophic. A president who recognizes, understands, and cares that Americans are dying.

  • As President, Biden will send Congress in the first 100 Days a sweeping plan for a clean-energy revolution:

  • Build a 100%-clean-energy economy – creating millions of jobs to power our recovery.

  • Invest record amounts in research and innovation – more than we spent to put a man on the moon.

  • Build a more resilient infrastructure, more efficient power grid, and 500,000 public charging stations for electric cars.

Voting

President Trump is using scare tactics to undermine voting-by-mail. But the truth is: Trump himself just voted-by-mail in Florida’s primary, and his campaign is promoting it for its own supporters.

Our military has been voting by mail since the Civil War.

Joe Biden refuses to let Donald Trump undermine faith in our democracy.

If President Trump says he won't accept the results of the election it doesn't matter. If we get the votes, he has to go.

The American people have it in our power to determine what’s going to happen and if we want four more years of these lies.

Go to IWillVote.com right now to make a plan to vote early.

TOPLINE: The American people are going to vote and determine the next President of the United States.

  • The Biden campaign has launched the biggest voter protection program in history: thousands of staff on the ground, lawyers, and poll watchers throughout the states to ensure every eligible voter who wants to can do so.

  • The campaign is aggressively answering efforts by Trump and his allies here at home and overseas to suppress voting.

  • This includes:

    • State programs-- recruiting and ensuring poll workers and safe polling locations.

    • Anti-voter suppression programs-- preventing Republicans from putting up obstacles to voting and from using supposed emergency powers to intimidate voters and attack or subvert our democratic processes.

    • Voter registration and education programs-- registering voters, and ensuring they have the information they need to vote by mail or in person.

    • Guarding against foreign interference and cyberattacks-- protecting against abuse of platforms and voter misinformation from domestic and foreign sources.

Dear Friends-

Tonight is the first opportunity for Joe Biden to debate Donald Trump, and we are going to be seeing two different visions for America. Trump, who sees the world from a “greed is good” version of Park Avenue and Joe Biden, who sees the world from his hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania.

We could not be more proud to work closely with the Biden Campaign to be a resource to you throughout the night. The Biden Campaign and the DNC War Room will have a rapid response team fact-checking the debate in real time.

Ahead of tonight’s debate in Cleveland, Biden for President and the DNC War Room have also
launched a joint fact-checking account on Twitter to go after Trump’s lies. @Truth will provide viewers with real-time information debunking Trump’s lies so voters are well-informed of the facts.

In addition, we are continuing to take the fight for people’s lives directly to Trump. There will be driving billboards around the debate hall in Cleveland, Ohio, indicating the over 200,000 deaths in this country from the coronavirus with audio of Trump saying “he wanted to always play it down.” Also, the billboards will acknowledge what’s at stake if the Supreme Court overturns the Affordable Care Act. After the debate, there will be a light display with the phrase “Trump lied, 200,000+ died.” There will be constant reminders of Trump’s failure to lead, before, during and after the debate. Here are some:

Friday was the
highest single-day increase in COVID in a month-and-a-half. New cases continue to increase across the country, including in almost half of states and Trump still hasn’t put forth a national plan.

Trump’s nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett puts at risk the 20 million people who could lose their health insurance and as many as 133 million Americans with preexisting conditions who will lose coverage protections. Trump's also been clear that he would only appoint justices who would overturn Roe v Wade.

And while hard working Americans played by the rules and paid federal income taxes, Trump paid $0 for years and only $750 in 2016 and 2017. Donald Trump paid far less in taxes than the average teacher, firefighter, or nurse.

During the debate, Joe Biden is going to be focused on speaking directly to the American people. He's going to talk about his plan to contain COVID-19 and to build our country back better. And, he’s going to talk about his plan to ensure working families and small businesses have a fair shot and make the super-wealthy and corporations pay their fair share. It will be the night when he will look Donald Trump directly in the eyes and hold him to account for failing our country in the midst of this pandemic. 200,000 Americans have paid with their lives and over 26 million are receiving unemployment assistance.

We are not just in the middle of a presidential election cycle, but people are voting now.
Nearly one million people have already voted. The American people are making their voices heard. And as Joe Biden said, the American people should choose the president, and the next president should fill the Supreme Court nominee.

Tonight, Joe Biden will remind the country of why we cannot have another four years of this chaos. He will speak to these issues and speak directly to Americans who are worried and scared for their future, and tired of all the fighting and looking for a leader to bring Americans together. We need a change in leadership, and Joe Biden is the one to meet this moment.

Yours in the Fight,
Mũthoni

P.S. We aren’t the only ones with Billboards holding Trump accountable in Cleveland.

MESSAGE OF THE DAY

1. NEW: Biden Won the First Debate

2. Trump’s Tax Returns Show His Disdain for Working Americans

3. Nomination of Amy Coney Barrett & Future of the Supreme Court

NEWS OF THE DAY

4. 7 Million Americans Infected After Trump Lies About COVID-19

5. 34 Days Until Election Day, 1.5 Million Votes Have Been Cast

MESSAGE OF THE DAY

1. NEW: Biden Won the First Debate

  • There was one leader on stage last night, and one liar. And there was one president on the debate stage, and it wasn’t the person who flew in on Air Force One.

    • Voters agree: in CNN’s poll, Americans thought Biden won the debate by a 2 to 1 margin.

  • Biden took the opportunity tonight to speak directly to the American people. He spoke to:

    • Families about how the crises facing our country are impacting them.

    • Americans who lost family members to COVID-19.

    • Workers struggling to get by because of jobs that moved overseas under Trump’s watch and because Trump inherited a good economy and wrecked it.

  • Biden offered comprehensive plans on the crises plaguing our country. Trump offered only interruptions and lies.

    • Trump was desperate, weak, and angry. He’s losing the race, and last night, he lost his temper. At one point, the moderator even conceded that he couldn’t follow Trump’s nonsensical ranting.

  • Trump had multiple chances to say he disavowed white supremacy. And, once again, he refused.

    • This morning and last night, white supremacist groups were celebrating Trump’s answers and using them for recruitment.

  • Biden demonstrated the leadership and temperament that Americans around the country are looking for.

2. Trump’s Tax Returns Show His Disdain for Working Americans

A bombshell report from the New York Times showed Trump didn’t pay any federal income taxes for 10 years between 2000-2015, and only paid $750 the year he was elected president and his first year in office.

  • While hardworking Americans played by the rules and paid federal income taxes, Trump paid $0 for years and only $750 in 2016 and 2017.

    • Trump paid far less than the average teacher, firefighter, or nurse.

  • Trump sees the world from Park Avenue. He looks out for his rich friends and corporate CEOs but looks down on workers and middle class families struggling to get by — just look at who he’s helped in office.

  • Trump’s made it easier for the 1% and big corporations to get out of paying their fair share.

    • 83% of the benefits from Trump’s tax scam will ultimately go to the wealthiest 1%, and big corporations have already raked in billions.

    • 100 of the most profitable corporations paid zero taxes after Trump’s tax bill.

    • Now, Trump wants to give another $30 billion tax break to the top 100 billionaires, who have made more than $300 billion this year.

  • Trump’s done almost nothing to help working people get ahead. He’s even refusing to negotiate critical economic relief to help working families get through this pandemic.

  • Biden sees the world from his hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania. He knows what it means to work hard, and what working people go through to make ends meet. He’s running for president to help all Americans, not to pad his own pockets.

Wade

  • Americans are voting for president in a majority of states — with a million votes already cast — and they deserve a say in who selects a successor to Justice Ginsburg.

    • Never before has a Supreme Court Justice been nominated and installed while a presidential election is already underway.

    • The American people deserve to be heard, especially when health care for millions, in the middle of a pandemic, hangs in the balance.

    • The majority of Americans want the winner of the election to select Justice Ginsburg’s replacement.

NEWS OF THE DAY

4. 7 Million Americans Infected After Trump Lies About COVID-19

  • Trump lied to the American people and downplayed the coronavirus for months, and now more than 200,000 Americans are dead and 7 million are infected.

5. 34 Days Until Election Day, 1.5 Million Votes Have Been Cast

  • It may be 34 days until November 3, but 1.5 million votes have already been cast and a majority of states are already voting.

  • Join the record number of new voters registering to vote in states across the country.

This includes:

    • State programs: recruiting poll workers and ensuring safe polling locations.

    • Anti-voter suppression programs: preventing Republicans from putting up obstacles to voting or subverting our democratic processes.

    • Voter registration and education programs: registering voters, and ensuring they have the information they need to vote by mail or in person.

    • Guarding against foreign interference and cyber attacks: protecting against abuse of platforms and voter misinformation from domestic and foreign sources.

NEW DNC VIDEO: ‘Had Enough?’

The DNC War Room today released a new video, “Had Enough?”, to highlight some of the chaos Trump brought to the debate last night, filled with desperate lies, outbursts, interruptions, and incitements of hate groups.

“Trump made it clear last night he lacks the leadership and temperament that Americans across the country are looking for in their president,” said DNC War Room Senior Spokesperson and Advisor Lily Adams. “He couldn’t go two minutes without some desperate display of lying, ranting, whining, or bullying. He couldn’t even bring himself to disown white supremacist groups that threaten our nation. Joe Biden said it best of Trump and the chaos he has created, ‘It is what it is because you are who you are.’”

Biden for President and DNC War Room Announce Joint Fact-Checking Account: @Truth

Ahead of tonight’s debate in Cleveland, Biden for President and the DNC War Room are launching a joint fact-checking account on Twitter to go after Trump’s lies. @Truth will provide viewers with real-time information debunking Trump’s lies so voters are well-informed of the facts.
By Isaac Stanley-Becker

Joe Biden’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee have a new weapon in their arsenal against President Trump: @Truth.

The campaign and the party’s “War Room” have acquired the Twitter handle, which they plan to wield for fact-checking the president during Tuesday’s highly anticipated debate. A video promoting the @Truth account features a clip of the Democratic nominee, when asked what he needed to accomplish during the encounter, answering, “Just tell the truth.”

“The American people deserve to remember what it’s like to have a president who tells the truth again,” said Andrew Bates, a Biden campaign spokesman.

[...]

The aim of the @Truth account, Democrats say, is that voters won’t be as hazy post-debate about the facts.

    • Trump’s proposing yet another tax cut for super wealthy investors that wouldn’t benefit middle-class Americans.

2. Nomination of Amy Coney Barrett & Future of the Supreme Court

On Saturday, Trump nominated Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.

  • While Republicans and Trump have dragged their feet getting relief to the millions of Americans affected by COVID and Trump’s recession, they are rushing to confirm a new justice because they believe they can overturn the Affordable Care Act.

  • Trump’s nominee has a track record of ruling against health care, voting rights, workers rights and more. This nomination risks:

    • Americans’ health care and protections for people with preexisting conditions

    • The right to vote

    • The right to clean air and clean water

    • The right to equal pay for equal work

    • Workers’ right to collectively bargain

    • DREAMers’ ability to avoid deportation

    • Women’s right to reproductive health care guaranteed by Roe v. Wade

  • The Supreme Court will hear Trump’s latest attempt to tear down the Affordable Care Act just one week after the election.

    • If Trump succeeds, his Supreme Court justice would likely help overturn the ACA, 20 million people could lose their health insurance and as many as 133 million Americans with preexisting conditions will lose coverage protections.

    • Trump still has no plan to replace the ACA or protect Americans’ health care.

  • Americans are voting for president in a majority of states, with nearly a million ballots already cast — they deserve a say in who selects a successor to Justice Ginsburg.

    • Never before has a Supreme Court Justice been nominated and installed while a presidential election is already underway.

    • The American people deserve to be heard, especially when health care for millions, in the middle of a pandemic, hangs in the balance.

    • The majority of Americans agree — as many as 6 in 10 want the winner of the election to select Justice Ginsburg’s replacement.

3. Biden Creates More Jobs; Trump Helps for the Rich

  • A new analysis from Moody’s Analytics confirms that Joe Biden is the jobs creator. Biden’s plan would create 18.6 million jobs — 7.4 million more jobs than Trump.

    • Trump’s plan is to double down on tax cuts for the super wealthy and big corporations, which wouldn’t create full employment for working Americans.

    • By investing in working families and our infrastructure, Biden’s plan will lead to low unemployment, higher homeownership, and grow the economy by almost $1 trillion more than Trump.

  • Trump’s economy works for his rich friends and big corporations, but American workers have been left behind.

    • Millions have lost their jobs — and with it their health care and ability to pay the bills — but Trump is focused on more tax cuts for the wealthiest 1%.

  • Last week, new numbers were released showing nearly 1 in 6 workers (26 million Americans) are receiving unemployment assistance.

    • For 27 weeks, more workers have filed unemployment claims than any week during any previous recession.

  • It didn’t have to be this bad but Trump purposely downplayed this virus.

    • More than 13 million Americans are out of work

    • More than half of lost jobs haven’t come back

    • Trump is on track to be the worst jobs president in recorded history

    • More than 100,000 small businesses have closed for good

    • Trump’s actions have “combined to shutter factories … eliminating hundreds of thousands of manufacturing jobs”

  • We need to get back to normal, but we can’t until we get the virus under control. Trump’s push to reopen too quickly without the right precautions has helped create a surge in infections, which makes it harder to fix the economy.

NEWS OF THE DAY

4. 7 Million Americans Infected After Trump Lies About COVID-19

  • Trump lied to the American people and downplayed the coronavirus for months, and now more than 200,000 Americans are dead and 7 million are infected.

5. 36 Days Until Election Day, More Than Half of States Are Voting

On Saturday, Dr. Jill Biden and Doug Emhoff traveled to Papillion, NE 48 hours before ballots were mailed to voters.

  • It may be 36 days until November 3, but a majority of states are already voting, including Nebraska, which start mailing ballots today.

  • Go to IWillVote.com today to check your registration status, learn how to register to vote and what choices you have to cast your ballot, and find out where and when to vote.

  • Join the record number of new voters registering to vote in states across the country.

    • Democrats are out-registering Republicans across the country, including in key battleground states like Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.

  • Voters in nearly a dozen states are already voting in person, with huge turnout.

Hi everyone,

Please see below for our topline message following President Trump's nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court.

TOPLINE MESSAGE:

  • Justice Ginsburg’s successor will have a profound impact on every part of our lives and our future. For voters, this isn’t about who is sitting on the Court, it’s about the issues that hang in the balance: health care, clean air and water, whether you make equal pay for equal work and the rights of voters, immigrants, women, and workers.

  • Today, Trump announced Amy Coney Barrett, who has a written track record of disagreeing with the U.S.

Ahead of Trump announcing his Supreme Court nominee today, we wanted to share our latest ad from the DNC War Room, "Samantha." The ad highlights the story of Samantha McGovern, whose daughter Josephine has a preexisting condition and whose family survived COVID-19. It blasts Trump for his effort to rush a Supreme Court justice confirmation so he can strip away health care from millions of Americans during a pandemic.

RE: Climate on the Ballot Roundtable with 350's Co-founder Bill McKibben, others

Dear Adrianne,

Climate is on the ballot this year. The power and importance of climate voters is enormous.

The Council is pushing for the bold climate policy we need. This means putting Joe Biden in the White House and electing climate champions across the country. And then continuing to organize and amplify the voices of climate and environmental justice activists.

The Council’s fifth Roundtable, “Climate on the Ballot,” will engage with these challenges. Join an exciting group of climate leaders next Wednesday, September 30th at 7pm ET for an important conversation, breathtaking poetry from one of the nation’s leading eco-poets, Council updates — and calls to action.

RSVP & SUBMIT QUESTIONS FOR THE SPEAKERS

I’ll be joined by:

  • Bill McKibben, Co-founder of 350.org, Professor at Middlebury College, and author of over a dozen books on the environment

  • Charlie Jiang, Climate Campaigner, Greenpeace USA

  • Justin Onwenu, DNC Climate Council Platform Committee member and a Detroit-based climate organizer

  • Ada Limón, Poet and Author of five books of poetry including The Carrying, winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award

Together, we can tackle the climate crisis — if we elect leaders who make bold, science-based choices and put into place policies to end the fossil fuel age, ensure a just transition for workers and communities, create millions of good union jobs, and center environmental justice.

We’ll be streaming live on Facebook and on YouTube. RSVP to receive streaming links on the day of the event. We hope you can join us.

MESSAGE OF THE DAY

1. NEW: Trump’s Health Care ‘Vision’ is To Tear Away Preexisting Conditions Protections

Yesterday, Trump signed a “total nothingburger” executive order to pretend that he will protect people with preexisting conditions.

  • Trump’s health care plan has been clear for four years: to tear away health care from tens of millions of Americans and strip protections from as many as 133 million Americans with preexisting conditions — including cancer survivors and potentially people with lasting complications of COVID-19.

  • Trump’s executive order is completely meaningless and won’t actually protect people with preexisting conditions.

    • In contrast, if Trump and Republicans succeed at getting the Supreme Court to eliminate the ACA, it will meaningfully take away health care from millions.

  • Trump has tried again and again to overturn the ACA and tear away preexisting condition protections.

    • The Supreme Court will hear Trump’s attempt to tear down the ACA just one week after the election.

    • If Trump and Senate Republicans succeed in rushing through a Supreme Court appointment, that justice could cast the deciding vote to overturn the ACA.

2. NEW: Biden’s Economy Creates More Jobs; Trump’s Economy Works for the Rich

  • A new analysis from Moody’s Analytics confirms that Joe Biden is the jobs creator. His economic plan would create 7 million more jobs than Trump’s.

    • Trump’s plan is to double down on tax cuts for the super wealthy and corporations, which wouldn’t create full employment for working Americans.

    • By investing in working families and our infrastructure, Biden’s plan will lead to low unemployment, higher homeownership, and grow the economy by almost $1 trillion more than Trump would.

  • Trump’s economy works for his rich friends and big corporations, but American workers have been left behind.

    • Millions have lost their jobs — and with it their health care and ability to pay the bills — but Trump is focused on more tax cuts for the wealthiest 1%.

    • Job growth is slowing as the coronavirus continues to infect tens of thousands of Americans a day, but Trump has no plan to contain it.

  • Yesterday, new numbers were released showing nearly 1 in 6 workers (26 million Americans) are receiving unemployment assistance, with 1.5 million workers filing new unemployment claims last week.

3. 200,000 Americans Die After Trump Lies About COVID-19

  • Trump lied to the American people and downplayed the coronavirus for months, and now 200,000 Americans are dead.

    • Trump’s lies have had real consequences — for the families of 200,000 lost loved ones, for the 7 million Americans who have been infected, and for the 13 million who are unemployed.

NEWS OF THE DAY

4. Passing of Justice Ginsburg & Future of the Supreme Court

Today, Justice Ginsburg became the first woman in history to lie in state in the U.S. Capitol.

  • Ruth Bader Ginsburg was an American hero and a relentless voice in the pursuit of equal justice under law. She fought for all of us, and her legal rulings advanced:

    • Equal rights for women

    • Access to health care

    • The right to choose

    • Voting rights

    • Clean air and clean water

  • While Republicans and Trump have dragged their feet getting relief to 13 million unemployed Americans, hundreds of thousands of families suffering from COVID, and schools and teachers, they are rushing to confirm a new justice because they believe they can overturn the Affordable Care Act.

    • Americans are struggling right now and the GOP is using their power to take more from working families.

  • The Supreme Court will hear Trump’s attempt to tear down the Affordable Care Act, including preexisting conditions protections, just one week after the election.

    • If Trump succeeds and his Supreme Court justice helps overturn the ACA, 20 million people could lose their health insurance and as many as 133 million Americans with preexisting conditions will lose coverage protections.

  • In her final days, Justice Ginsburg asked that the president elected on November 3 choose her successor, and that is exactly what should happen. Voters are already casting ballots for president in a majority of states, and that president should select a successor to Justice Ginsburg.

    • The American people deserve to be heard, especially when health care for millions, in the middle of a pandemic, hangs in the balance.

5. NEW: Trump Undermines Democracy

  • Yesterday, Trump and the White House doubled down on Trump’s refusal to commit to a peaceful transfer of power if he loses. Make no mistake — the American people have the power to end Trump’s presidency this November.

  • This is just the latest example of Trump trying to undermine our election in an attempt to avoid accountability for his failures — from baselessly attacking mail-in ballots to falsely claiming with no evidence that there are efforts to “rig” or “steal” the election.

  • We have seen this from Trump for years — he is trying to distract from the reality that his failures, in particular on coronavirus, have cost thousands of American lives and millions of jobs.

    • American voters will not be distracted by Trump’s attempts to avoid accountability with this latest outlandish and dangerous rhetoric.

6. 39 Days Until Election Day, a Majority of States Are Voting

  • It may be 39 days until November 3, but a majority of states are already voting, including Florida and Michigan, which started voting yesterday.

    • 1.5 million Texans have registered to vote in the last four years, more than double the average of recent cycles.

  • Voters in 130 states are already voting in person, with huge turnout.
