The official notice of the DPCA General Meeting, 15 days prior to the meeting

Dear DPCA Voting Members,

This message serves as notice for the upcoming DPCA Global Meeting, 15 days from now. Please find attached the updated agenda for the activities before the Global Meeting (April 29-30) and the Global Meeting itself (May 1-3).

Remote participation by WebEx will be available for the business portions of the Global Meeting. If you plan to attend the Global Meeting, either in person or by Webex, please register as soon as possible online at https://www.regonline.com/dpca2015

If your Country Committee has recently changed leadership, please make the new leadership aware of this information in case they are not on the listserv yet.*

You will also find attached the proposed resolutions to be considered during the Global Meeting, as reviewed by the DPCA Resolutions Committee. The Resolutions Committee invites you to begin discussing these resolutions on the DPCA-Leadership listserv now.

A second message will follow this one within minutes (due to CiviMail's limit of two attachments per message). That message will include two documents that pertain to Charter amendments to be considered during the meeting. One document is a version of the DA Charter with the Executive Committee's proposed amendments noted and color-coded. The Executive Committee's proposed amendments have changed since the 45-day notice, particularly Sections 3.6 and 3.7. The changes are due to the Executive Committee's approval and integration of the entire proposal by Ken Sherman, Quaide Williams, and Rob Carolina.

The other Charter-related document is a brief proviso to those amendments, along with three other proposals from DPCA Members to be considered during the Global Meeting.

The form to designate a proxy, along with instructions on proxies, will follow tomorrow.

Please note that bids from Country Committees to host the 2016 Global Meeting (and potentially the Global Convention) should be sent to me and the International Secretary (secretary@democratsabroad.org) by April 27. Early submissions are welcome.

You can always find the latest notices and documents at the DA Wiki page for this meeting:
http://wiki.democratsabroad.org/display/PCana2015/PuntaCanaDR-May2015+Home

I'm looking forward to participating in group feedback sessions with you, hearing from speakers and guests, and also accomplishing a great deal of vital DA business.

Please direct questions about the meeting to Will Bakker (secretary@democratsabroad.org), International Secretary. That said, you are always welcome to contact me about DA-related matters.

Best,
Katie Solon
International Chair, Democratic Party Committee Abroad

Dear DPCA Voting Members,

This message serves as notice of the upcoming 2015 DPCA Global Meeting, 45 days from now.

The meeting will begin at 8:45am Atlantic Standard Time (UTC-4) on Friday, May 1, 2015. (Atlantic Standard Time is the same as EDT during our meeting.) It is scheduled to adjourn at 1:00pm Atlantic Standard Time on Sunday, May 3, 2015. When making travel arrangements, please keep in mind the following additional Democrats Abroad events:

  • Panel discussion and informal dinner in Santo Domingo, April 29
  • Americas Regional Meeting (at meeting site in Punta Cana), April 30, 1:00pm
  • Resolutions and Charter Amendments Pre-Meeting (at meeting site in Punta Cana), April 30, 3:00pm
  • Welcome Reception hosted by DA Dominican Republic, Punta Cana, April 30, evening

The Global Meeting will be held at the Ocean Blue and Sand Hotel, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Rooms in that hotel are currently available at a discount; International Treasurer Art Schankler posted detailed information earlier this week. Please recall the deadline of March 31 and book as soon as possible.

Remote participation by WebEx will be available. Registration will be required for participation by WebEx or in person. I expect a registration page to be available on our website later this week.

Resolutions to be considered during the 2015 Global Meeting must be sent to me by April 1. The form for bids from Country Committees to host the 2016 Global Meeting will be made available in the near future.

I attached a PDF file of the agenda. We have a great deal of important business during the Global Meeting, including the election of international officers, scheduled for Saturday. We also have guest speakers, training, and a collaborative session entitled "Feedback on 2014 and Forward to 2015-2016." More details on the sessions will follow in the weeks to come. Please note that the order of sessions may change depending on availability of guest speakers. You will receive timely notifications of changes to the agenda.

I also attached a PDF file of proposed amendments to the DA Charter. The DPCA Executive Committee approved putting these proposals before the DPCA at the Global Meeting, in order to harmonize with Democratic Party standards and clarify our own procedures. The next Global Town Hall (March 23, 3pm EDT) will be devoted to discussing these amendments.

For your reference, information about the meeting will be continuously available on the new Democrats Abroad Wiki, at the address: http://wiki.democratsabroad.org/x/o4Gh
That page will be kept up-to-date by the International Secretary.

I am eager to see you and to talk about how we can continue to build DA in 2015 and get ready for 2016. As always, you are welcome to contact me about DA-related matters.

Best,
Katie Solon
