FAQ for 2019 Leadership Board Elections

Frequently Asked Questions

I want to vote but don’t know my Democrats Abroad ID number! What do I do?

Check your email for a link to the online ballot. Within the email, your ID number should be listed right after your name. If you can’t find this email, you can also sign in to democratsabroad.org/login and click your name in the top right corner to view your ID on the resulting page. If you still have problems, perhaps you are not registered with DA China. Then you can sign up at democratsabroad.org/join. If you are still having problems, please PM the DemocratsAbroad account on Wechat or email info-china@democratsabroad.org.

I voted but then heard some great speeches and want to change my vote. Can I still change my vote?

Yes, until the Leadership Board elections are closed, you can submit a new ballot. Please note that we will only consider the final ballot you send and we will disregard all earlier ballots.

These are great candidates for the Leadership Board, but I actually want to vote for someone not listed. Can I do this?

Yes, there is an option for ‘Other’ on the ballot. If you click this, you must put the name of someone down and if they are a registered DA China member, we will take the vote into account. Note that if you put name(s) here, the total number of candidates you selected and inputted must not exceed 11, or we will disqualify your vote.

I think I input the right ID and selected no more than eleven candidates, but I’m afraid I made a mistake and was disqualified. Can I check?

Yes, while individual ballots will only be viewed post submission by the NEC and volunteers assisting in the vote count, we will keep a list of voter names, IDs, ballot status (accepted/disqualified), and time of submission. Upon request with the NEC, we can help you verify your name and ID and check whether the ballot was accepted. For limited cases, mainly if you are physically present at AGM, we may try to verify in person any disqualified ballots and ask whether that member may have made a mistake. Thus, we encourage you to attend AGM in person or through WebEx!

I want to vote for officers, but early voting only lets me choose people for the Leadership Board. Why is that?

The Executive Committee is chosen from the newly elected Leadership Board. Thus, the election results for the Leadership Board have to be decided before officer elections can open. As such, officer elections will only occur at the AGM, for attendees in person or through WebEx. Please RSVP and join us at the AGM on Sunday April 14 at 1 pm! Note that each officer election is decided in turn, and the candidates are in flux until just prior to that specific election.

I don’t know any of the candidates! Who should I pick?

All current candidates have provided a statement, and multiple endorsements have also been submitted. A link to all this information with their statements can be found at: 2019 Candidates for DA China Leadership Board

You can also find contact info for each candidate, such as their Wechat ID, email address, or both. We invite you to contact them and ask them your questions! Furthermore, if you can attend the AGM, every candidate will get an opportunity to speak to the attendees on why they should be elected. Please come and listen before voting!

I can’t go to all of the AGM. Should I still RSVP and/or come?

Yes! The first half will predominantly be the Leadership Board elections (which also has early voting), and the second half will contain the six officer elections, but you do not need to vote in every election if you can’t be there for all of the elections. There will also be updates from the current Leadership Board on DA China you might be interested in. So please come and participate in as much as you can! We also encourage you to RSVP anyway, as we can then pre-verify that you are a DA China member and will be voting in at least some of the elections.
