Welcome to Democrats Abroad China! 

As a new registrant or re-registrant, enclosed are the official channels used to informed members of events and meetings, both online and offline.

  1. E-mail: Democrats Abroad and Democrats Abroad China announce important voter information, news, and events via e-mail newsletters, Letters from the Chair, and message on special topics. Ensure your contact information is correct and you have opted in for e-mail messaging by visiting our main page: www.democratsabroad.org. 
  2. DACN also uses Google Groups to organize Caucus, Council and Task Force efforts. 
  3. Event Calendars: DA China-hosted events are listed on our website, the main source of all DACN information. The DACN events page can be found here: Events - Democrats Abroad. DACN additionally uses a calendar app called TeamUp, which can be accessed here: Democrats Abroad China Events | Teamup.
  4. Monthly Leadership Board Meetings: all members of DA China are invited to attend Leadership Board meetings, also called Country Meetings, which usually occur once a month. All members are invite to visit Meeting Minutes - Democrats Abroad China. Read/watch/listen to all DACN meetings! 
  5. Social media platforms are used to further inform DACN members DACN currently uses FacebookInstagramTwitter, and WeChat! ★ DACN AIMS TO CREATE SAFE SPACES TO FOSTER ADVOCACY, ALLYSHIP & ACTIONS! 

DACN members are invited to find and follow DACN on social media. Follow us on any platform to receive up-to-date DACN news!

DACN social media platforms are meant for building and organizing within our local community. DACN has rules and guidelines to keep all social media accounts and groups productive and goal-oriented environments. All Democrats Abroad communications rules apply. All DA and DACN Code of Conduct rules and Bylaws apply to every DACN platform and social media space. All information regarding rules will be noticed and available to the public. Users are reminded to follow all guidelines and rules set forth by social media platforms. Members should always be aware of a platform's rules and regulations regarding what conduct constitutes a violation and can be flagged as inappropriate. Violations can and will result in member removal from a DACN space.


★ GOALS & RULES for WECHAT 

  1. Follow all guidelines and rules set forth by WeChat, TenCent, and our host country at all times. Violations will result in removal from a DACN WeChat space. Members should always be aware of the app's rules and regulations regarding what conduct constitutes a WeChat violation and can be flagged. 
  2. Grow a community in China of DA members interested in contributing to Get out the Vote (GOTV) & the Global Democrats Abroad Platform.
  3. Assist Americans Abroad by distributing information and responding to registration and voter needs and requests. 
  4. Provide the same up-to-date information about DA events, training, and volunteer opportunities that can be found on the DACN website pages, DACN e-mails, and also other social media platforms.
  5. Support US Democratic Party leaders in upcoming elections. 
  6. DACN Leadership Board members serve as administrators and moderators of WeChat spaces. There may occasionally be moderators for WeChat spaces that are volunteers from the DACN membership. All WeChat owners, administrators, and moderators will be approved and authorized by the Chair, as well as recognized by the Leadership Board. A moderator for a WeChat group can be replaced or resign at any time.
  7. The DACN Leadership Board reserves the right to remove a member from a DACN WeChat space. 
  8. Rules set forth for WeChat can also be applicable to other DACN social media accounts.

Upon adding Democrats Abroad on WeChat (ID: DemocratsAbroad), members will be able to see announcements and information posted as "Moments." Once added, Board members who administrate the DACN WeChat account will reach out and provide information regarding WeChat spaces and let members choose for themselves if they wish to participate in DACN group chats. Information on the "Moments" feed is mirrored in the DACN Announcements Group. Members are invited to join the Announcements Group, but this is not mandatory. At any time, members can request to join, or chose to leave a DACN group. DACN WeChat use is non-mandatory, nor essential to stay informed, as it not the official DACN platform for organizing. Members of all WeChat groups should be aligned with the Democratic Party, and must have registered with Democrats Abroad (www.democratsabroad.org/join).

1. WeChat Moments Feed & the Announcements Group

The Announcements Group was created to provide an easy and uncluttered way for DA members to learn what's happening with the organization and voting in the United States. The DACN Announcements Group has strict guidelines for posts, which also apply to Moments posts. Posted content will reference DA events, U.S. election notices, U.S. voter information, and DACN updates.

  • All Announcements Group and Moments posts will be made by DA Board Members only
    • Any exception by a non-Board member who wishes to post in the Announcements Group or the Moments feed must request and obtain authorization from the Chair and be recognized by the Leadership Board. 
  • To ask questions: members should message the DemocratsAbroad WeChat Account DIRECTLY.
    • Individuals will firstly receive a direct response to an inquiry.
    • The Announcements Group and Moments Feed may further address questions by posting information which may apply and be important to other members regarding these questions/comments made by a member. 
  • No member is allowed to post non-relevant content, content which may violate the rules of WeChat, content which may violate the rules of DA and/or DACN, personal content, advertisements, GIFs, stickers, etc, in the Announcements Group or as a reply to a DACN Moments post.
    • If such a post is made, a member will be warned either via a private or public WeChat message, and group removal may ensue either immediately, and/or if another violation occurs.  
  • No member is allowed to violate the DA or DACN code of conduct in either space.
    • If such a post is made, a member will be warned either via a private or public WeChat message, and group removal may ensue either immediately, and/or if another violation occurs.  
  • Comments regarding our host country, or US foreign policy cannot be posted in DACN WeChat spaces, or any other DACN space, in accordance with the Democrats Abroad communications rules. 
    • If such a post is made, a member will be warned either via a private or public WeChat message, and group removal may ensue either immediately, and/or if the same posting violation continues, or if a future violation of this rule by the same member occurs. 
  • To discuss local events, or specific areas of U.S. domestic current events: members should join relevant geographic, Caucus or volunteer groups.

2. Rules for DACN City, Caucus & Other WeChat Groups

In order to facilitate discussion and foster community growth in a productive manner, all DACN members are expected to adhere to the following rules.

  • Abide by all WeChat rules. Any user of WeChat should always be aware of the app's rules and in regards to WeChat definitions of content constituting a violation. 
  • Make no posts or comments regarding our host country. US foreign policy will not be mentioned in WeChat groups, or any other DACN space, in accordance with Democrats Abroad communications rules. 
    • If such a post is made, a member will be warned via a private message, message in the group, or both. Said member is subject to removal either immediately, or if they continue the line of commentary which resulted in the initial warning. Removal can also occur if a member has violated the aforementioned rules on more than one occasion.
  • Moderator rules for DACN WeChat spaces were suggested, received by the Leadership Board, and published prior to May 2021. Please note the suggested additions can be found on this Wiki space, alongside other rules, such as the official governing DA Code of Conduct and DACN Bylaws.
  • No member is allowed to post non-relevant content, content which may violate the rules of WeChat, content which may violate the rules of DA and/or DACN, personal content, advertisements, inappropriate GIFs, inappropriate stickers, or other forms of inappropriate content. 
    • If such a post is made, a member will be warned via a private or public message. Said member is subject to removal either immediately, or if they continue to violate posting rules which resulted in the initial warning. Removal can also occur if a member has violated the aforementioned rules on more than one occasion.
  •  No member is allowed to violate the DA or DACN Code of Conduct in any DACN space - on WeChat or otherwise.
    • If such a post is made, a member will be warned either via a private or public WeChat message, and group removal may ensue either immediately, and/or if another violation occurs.  
  • Keep all conversations and posts on DACN related to U.S. politics and U.S. domestic policies.   
  • At any time, a member can file a complaint with DACN Chair, or DACN Leadership Board member. 
    • While WeChat may be a quick way to file a complaint and have it addressed, it is requested members follow up via e-mail, for the purposes of disseminating information to all Board members. DACN will make every attempt to ensure complaints are thoroughly addressed and appropriately documented.
    • If a complaint is directly filed with a group administrator, group moderator, or group leader, said complaint will and must be forwarded to the DACN Chair and DACN Leadership Board. 
    • Complaints can be e-mailed to the Chair at: dacn-chair@democratsabroad.org, or to Leadership Board Members at info-china@democratsabroad.org. 
  • Contact a group admin or leader if you think you would like to create or know of an activity that should be considered by a DACN group.
    • Be sure to ask for help!
      • All events must follow DACN creation and marketing protocols.
      • All fundraising must follow Treasury rules set forth by DA, DACN, and the FEC.
    • Do not send spam.
  • Remain civil. DACN members all meet the requirements of being a member of Democrats Abroad, which means each member is of voting age in the U.S., and thus considered an adult. DACN does not tolerate any personal attacks, discriminatory remarks, threats, talk of or about enacting violent or sexual acts, and other Code of Conduct violations.
    • All members are expected to act professionally and respectfully in WeChat spaces, even in the event of a disagreement.
    • At any time, a member can voice the right to disengage on a topic in a group chat. Disengagement requests should be respected by all members. The requests posted will be noted by admins and moderators. The member issuing a request to disengage on a topic should not be messaged publicly or privately on the subject, nor "quoted" in a thread by another member.
    • Any of the aforementioned conduct violations and others perhaps not mentioned above will result in removal from one/more/all DACN WeChat spaces. 
  • Contact a group admin or leader if you think you would like to create or know of an activity that should be considered by a DACN group.
    • All events must follow DACN creation and marketing protocols.
    • All fundraising must follow Treasury rules set forth by DA, DACN, and the FEC.
    • Do not send spam.

WeChat rules have been previously issued by previous and current DACN Leadership Boards. Rules have repeatedly been announced within DACN WeChat spaces as posts, announcements, group notices, and private messages throughout DACN's use of WeChat. The DACN Wiki spaces will be kept up-to-date and serve as the main resource for DACN social media policies.


The Democrats Abroad website, formal DACN e-mail addresses, and DA Wiki spaces are the official accounts used by DA China and serve as central depositories for DA China.
