We are building subcommittees on outreach specific to women's issues, minorities, LGBT, and other interest groups to increase voter registration and support.  Look for opportunities to join other DA Members in this outreach.

Also needed in August will be CC's willing to take on Countries without an organized DA Chapter, or those who need help in terms of phonebanking and reaching out to members.

Please keep these opportunities in mind as you build your list of volunteers for GOTV - people are motivated for many reasons and we want everyone encouraged to participate during the long year ahead!

The DPCA Executive Committee adopted this plan in January 2014 and it serves as the blueprint for serving our members and helping to elect Democrats in this election year. PDF file below:

I am a voter and I want to check my registration status?  Where do I go?
Check online at www.canivote.org (site sponsored by the National Secretary Of States).  If they are NOT registered, they should contact their Local Election Office directly (All local election office information is compiled on the State by State information pages of our Wiki  CLICK HERE)

FVAP Voter Assistance Guide and Documents:

The reference bible for all of the in-state nuances.  Not always updated in the printed version (look for updates in the state section or on the fvap.gov website) but a strong starting point for questions on a state level.  Secretary of State offices are the general point of contact for UOCAVA voters who have specific questions about voter registration laws and voting implications.

"When should I expect to receive my ballot for the November election?"

The FVAP Voter Assistance Guide answers this question by citing the requirements of the MOVE Act:

States and territories must send ballots no later than 45 days before an election. If you have not received your ballot 30 days before the election, contact your local election official.

Thirty days before the election is October 5, 2014. Of course, you need to submit an FPCA to request your ballot first! A few pages later, the Guide repeats:

Your local election official will contact you if your application is denied. Your ballot will be sent to you on or before September 20, 2014 (45 days before Election Day).

Citizens Residing Outside the U.S. Voter Residency Guidelines and Tax Implications:

Citizens residing outside the U.S. may not arbitrarily choose which State to declare as their legal voting residence without meeting the State's residency requirement. The following are basic guidelines to follow in determining voting residency:

  • Your "legal State of residence" for voting purposes is the address where you last resided immediately prior to your departure from the U.S. This residence remains valid even though the citizen may no longer own property or have other ties to their last State residence and their intent to return to that State may be uncertain.
  • Voting in an election for Federal offices only may not be used as the sole basis to determine residency (or domicile) for the purposes of imposing State and local taxes. If you claim a particular State as your residence and have other ties with that State in addition to voting, then you may be liable for State and local taxation, depending upon that particular State law. Consult your legal counsel for specific questions or situations

DNC Voter Expansion Project:

Voting is one of the most fundamental rights in our democracy. That's why we're launching the Voter Expansion Project. We’re leading the charge to expand the vote, because it's not enough anymore for us to simply protect against voting restrictions.

Join President Bill Clinton and the Democratic Party in our fight to protect and expand the right to vote.

Technology Updates:

How does this impact your GOTV Efforts and what is the latest and greatest news in Voter Technology?

Fully Automated Voter Registration:  There are 15 States that have capabilities for registering voters in some capacity online in 2014.  The State of California's online tool makes it possible to register to vote online without printing, mailing, or faxing if you have a valid CA drivers license.  It pulls your Driver's License signature and applies it directly to the FPCA!  We are looking at all of the technology updates and will use those updates to let you know what is going on and how we can perhaps use these to an advantage in key races as the year goes on!

Our goal is to create a robust and 'live' place for data and resources for all levels of GOTV support.  Novice or Expert, we want to provide you with the information and tools that you need and trust to get the hard work in the field done.

We don't want you googling or spending time on details - we want you talking to our members and prospective members - and getting out the vote!

We encourage you to review the information we have provided and check back as we add more space, documents and functionality to this 'one stop' GOTV shop!

Feedback is always appreciated and encouraged.
