MESSAGE OF THE DAY

1. NEW: Atlantic Revelations of Trump Attacking Fallen Soldiers and Wounded Veterans

According to new reports, Trump called fallen soldiers “losers” and “suckers,” and asked for wounded veterans to be excluded from military parades.

  • Trump’s comments are beyond disgusting — they’re un-American. He has no honor or shame.

  • Trump has no idea what it means to sacrifice for our country, and no respect for those who have.

    • Generations of brave Americans have sacrificed life and limb in defense of our freedoms. Their wounds do not make them “losers.” Their deaths do not make them “suckers.”

    • America’s heroes deserve a president who respects their courage. Sadly, they do not have one now.

  • This report has already been confirmed by multiple outlets. Trump can’t hide his long history of evading military service and denigrating American heroes like John McCain.

    • If Trump says in public, “He’s not a war hero. I like people who weren’t captured,” why is it a surprise that he says the same in private?

  • As a military family, Joe and Jill Biden know the burden shared by those who give everything to our country. It’s why they’ve always prioritized the health and well-being of service members, veterans, and military families.

2. NEW: 13 Million Unemployed in Trump’s Recession

  • Six months into this crisis, more than 13 million Americans are out of work, and more than half of jobs lost during the pandemic haven’t come back. Trump is the worst jobs president in recorded history.

    • While other countries have largely recovered, job growth has slowed due to Trump’s failed COVID response.

    • Unemployment continues to be above 10% for communities of color — 10.5% for Hispanic Americans, 10.7% for Asian Americans, 13% for Black Americans.

  • 1 in 5 workers are receiving unemployment assistance as mass layoffs continue.

    • For 24 weeks, more workers have filed unemployment claims than any week during any previous recession.

  • Trump’s mismanagement of the coronavirus has cost more than 11 million Americans their jobs and forced more than 100,000 small businesses to close for good.

  • Trump is utterly disconnected from the pain and suffering of so many families.

    • Trump cut aid that unemployed workers need to pay the bills while proposing new tax cuts for the top 1% and wealthy investors.

  • Joe Biden and Kamala Harris support expanded unemployment insurance for millions of Americans, have a plan to prevent evictions, and know how to build our economy back better.

3. Bidens’ Visit to Kenosha, WI

Yesterday, Jill and Joe Biden traveled to Kenosha, WI to meet with Jacob Blake’s family and community leaders to heal and address the challenges we face.

  • Trump is fanning the flames of hate and division, defending accused murderers, and trying to blame the chaos that ensues on his political opponents — despite the fact that, last we checked, he is currently the president.

  • Trump is endangering Americans by failing to rebuke violence and lawlessness.

    • Trump is no “law and order” candidate — he is weak and unable to confront the very hate he has stoked.

    • Trump defended his supporters and vigilantes who harass and attack protesters.

    • Trump downplayed police brutality and fatal police shootings.

    • Trump’s attorney general has absurdly denied there is any systemic racism in our criminal justice system.

    • Trump isn’t uniting Americans, he’s targeting cities that didn’t vote for him by attempting likely illegal funding cuts as a political stunt.

  • Vice President Biden traveled to Kenosha, WI to meet with the Blake family — including Jacob Blake, who is out of the ICU and joined by phone — and leaders from all corners of the community to begin to heal and address the challenges we face.

    • In a statement, Ben Crump, the attorney representing Jacob Blake, said “the family was grateful for the meeting and was very impressed that the Bidens were so engaged and willing to really listen.”

    • Trump’s visit to Kenosha, WI was a political stunt. He didn’t meet with protestors, civil rights activists, or the Blake family — or even mention Jacob Blake’s name — and refused to acknowledge the issues of systemic racism and police violence.

  • Vice President Biden has repeatedly condemned violence and called for an end to the chaos that Trump is fanning. Trump has not.

RECURRING TOPICS

5. Six Million Coronavirus Cases in Trump’s America

  • We surpassed 6.1 million confirmed cases and 186,000 deaths because Trump has failed to contain COVID-19.

    • He doesn’t listen to experts, doesn’t take it seriously, and doesn’t have a plan.

    • The White House has effectively admitted that its containment strategy has failed, and now is following through with Trump’s demand to “slow the testing down.”

  • Trump is playing politics with our lives. He has undercut health experts and dangerously pressured the CDC and FDA to change their guidance on everything from testing and mask wearing to untested treatments.

    • Trump is interfering in the vaccine approval process, with experts raising concerns that the administration is seeking to rush a vaccine before Election Day.

  • More than 60 percent of Americans said the federal government’s response has made the recovery worse, not better.

  • Joe Biden will rely on science and experts to guide his coronavirus response, including in developing a vaccine. At every step of this crisis, Trump has put political considerations ahead of the health and safety of Americans.
