1. Labor and Workers in Trump’s Recession

2. Trump Attacks Fallen Soldiers and Wounded Veterans

3. Six Million Coronavirus Cases in Trump’s America

1. Labor and Workers in Trump’s Recession

On Labor Day, Vice President Biden traveled to Harrisburg, PA for a virtual event from the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO headquarters and took questions from union members. Senator Harris toured an IBEW training facility and attended a roundtable with Black business owners in Milwaukee, WI. Trump gave an incoherent press conference focused on himself in which he made no effort to honor workers or the labor movement.

  • American workers have been knocked down. Millions have lost their jobs — and with it their pay, health insurance, and the dignity of work.

    • Instead of recognizing the pain of working families or honoring the labor movement on Labor Day, Trump gave an incoherent press conference focused on his top concern, himself.

    • While Trump cites the stock market to claim the economy is recovering, his friends and big corporations are getting richer while working families are still struggling to make ends meet.

  • It didn’t have to be this bad: Six months into this crisis, more than 13 million Americans are out of work, and more than half the jobs lost haven’t come back. Trump is the worst jobs president in recorded history.

    • More than 100,000 small businesses have closed for good.

    • While other countries have largely recovered, job growth has slowed due to Trump’s failed COVID response.

  • 1 in 5 workers (29 million Americans) are receiving unemployment assistance as mass layoffs continue.

    • For 24 weeks, more workers have filed unemployment claims than any week during any previous recession.

  • Trump doesn’t have a plan to address this pandemic or get Americans back to work safely. He is utterly disconnected from the pain and suffering of so many families.

    • Trump cut aid that unemployed workers need to pay the bills while proposing new tax cuts for the top 1% and wealthy investors.

  • Workers deserve a president who will put them first. Biden and Harris know we can’t just go back to the way things were before the virus — we have to build back better. They’ll create millions of good-paying, union jobs and reward work, not wealth. Their plans include:

    • Encourage union organizing and collective bargaining

    • Pay workers a decent wage, at least $15 per hour

    • Ensure access to quality, affordable health care

    • Provide universal paid sick days and 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave

    • Ensure women are paid equally for equal work

2. Trump Attacks Fallen Soldiers and Wounded Veterans

  • Trump’s comments are beyond disgusting — they’re un-American.

  • Trump inherited everything and sacrificed nothing, and has no respect for those who have given everything for our country.

    • Brave Americans who have sacrificed life and limb in defense of our freedoms are not “losers” or “suckers.”

    • America’s heroes deserve a president who respects their courage. Sadly, they do not have one now.

    • Trump can’t defend his alleged comments, so instead he’s attacking military leadership.

  • The Atlantic’s report has already been confirmed by numerous outlets, including Fox News. And Trump can’t hide his long history of disparaging military service and denigrating American heroes like John McCain.

  • As a military family, Joe and Jill Biden know the burden shared by those who give everything to our country. It’s why they’ve always prioritized the health and well-being of service members, veterans, and military families.

3. Six Million Coronavirus Cases in Trump’s America

  • The U.S. has over 6.3 million confirmed cases and nearly 190,000 deaths because Trump has failed to contain COVID-19.

    • Trump doesn’t listen to experts, doesn’t take it seriously, and doesn’t have a plan. Even GOP officials in North Carolina are begging Trump to wear a mask today, as he’s failed to do at nearly every turn of this pandemic.

    • The White House has effectively admitted that its containment strategy has failed, and now is following through with Trump’s demand to “slow the testing down.”

  • Trump said yesterday that we’re “rounding the final turn,” but cases are rising in 22 states and experts expect yet another surge in the fall.

  • We are just 4% of the world’s population but have nearly 25% of the world’s cases and over 20% of deaths.

  • Trump is playing politics with our lives. He is putting his reelection ahead of Americans’ safety by pushing for a vaccine before Election Day instead of following the science to ensure it’s safe and effective.

  • Joe Biden will rely on science and experts to guide his coronavirus response, including in developing a vaccine. At every step of this crisis, Trump has put political considerations ahead of the health and safety of Americans.
