1. NEW: Trump Lies To Voters at ABC Town Hall

  • During a televised town hall with undecided voters, Trump sprayed a firehose of lies on COVID, health care, and other topics.

  • Trump lied about his failed response to the coronavirus — praising himself when we have the worst coronavirus outbreak in the world, and contradicting experts.

    • Trump claimed he “up-played” the virus even though he has admitted on tape to downplaying it.

    • Trump claimed he did a “great job,” but his response has been one of the worst in the world, with more reported cases and deaths than any other country.

    • Trump claimed “some people say don't wear masks,” but his own coronavirus task force and every reputable expert says to wear one

    • Trump took credit for China travel restrictions, but they were filled with holes and allowed tens of thousands of people to fly in from China.

    • Trump claimed the country’s “excess mortality” is better than Europe, but we have a higher mortality rate than Europe.

  • Trump lied about health care — he has no health care plan and is in court trying to eliminate protections for preexisting conditions with no replacement.

  • Trump lied about the economy — we don’t have a “super V,” we have slowing job growth and Trump is on track to be the worst jobs president since the Great Depression.

  • It’s no wonder voters at the town hall were left “fuming” at Trump’s lies and “reanimated” to vote for Biden. They know Trump “was lying through his teeth” and didn’t answer their questions.

2. Trump Lied To Americans and Downplayed COVID

This week, the DNC War Room released a new television ad, “Red Handed,” that blasts Trump for lying to the American people about the severity of the coronavirus.

  • Trump lied to the American people and downplayed the coronavirus for months despite knowing how deadly it was. It’s a stunning act of betrayal.

  • Trump is on tape admitting that he knew the virus was “deadly,” but that he was “playing it down.”

    • Trump told the public that COVID would miraculously “disappear,” that it was no more dangerous than the flu, and that it would “pass.”

    • As Trump lied to the American people, he told the truth to Washington insiders — that the coronavirus is “more deadly” than the flu and that it was airborne and highly contagious.

      • Trump knew COVID was dangerous and harmful to children, while in public he said they were “almost immune.”

      • Trump knew COVID was airborne, while in public he rejected mask wearing and held indoor rallies with no social distancing.

      • Trump knew COVID was more dangerous than the flu, but repeatedly told the public it wasn’t.

  • Trump’s lies didn’t prevent panic, they cost an untold number of lives and caused devastating economic harm.

    • Now, more than 6.6 million Americans have been infected, 195,000 have died, and our economy has been devastated because he purposefully didn’t do his job.

  • Trump continues to downplay the virus, endanger lives, and muzzle health officials.

    • Trump held a potential “superspreader” indoor rally in violation of Nevada’s health guidelines, even after NIH Director Dr. Collins and Dr. Fauci rebuked the lack of precautions at his rallies.

      • Trump said he’s “not at all concerned” about getting COVID because he’s “on a stage and it’s very far away.” He doesn’t care if his supporters get sick or spread the virus as long as he’s fine.

    • Dr. Fauci said he disagrees with Trump’s claims that we’re “rounding the corner,” and said the number of cases and deaths are “disturbing.”

    • Trump’s political appointees are interfering with CDC reports to downplay the virus.

3. NEW: Trump Politicizes COVID-19 Vaccine

Today, Vice President Biden will receive a briefing from public health experts and deliver remarks on developing and equitably distributing a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine.

  • Trump is playing politics with our lives. He is putting his reelection ahead of Americans’ safety by pushing for a vaccine before Election Day instead of following the science to ensure it’s safe and effective.

    • We cannot allow a repeat of Trump’s testing and PPE fiascos when it comes to a vaccine. The stakes are too high.

    • Dr. Fauci and other experts have called Trump’s promises of a vaccine before Election Day “unlikely” and “very remote.”

  • Joe Biden will rely on science and experts to guide his coronavirus response, including in developing a vaccine. Biden and Harris have laid out three questions his administration must answer so every American can have confidence in a safe and effective vaccine:

    • What criteria will be used to ensure a COVID-19 vaccine meets the scientific standard of safety and efficacy?

    • Who will validate that the administration’s decision to greenlight a COVID-19 vaccine is driven by science and not political motivation?

    • What is the plan to allocate and distribute the COVID-19 vaccine to Americans cost-free, safely, equitably, and without politics?

4. Wildfires and the Climate Crisis

This week, Vice President Biden delivered remarks on the wildfires ravaging the West and how he'll tackle the climate crisis, and Senator Harris met with first responders in Fresno, CA.

  • We stand with the families who have lost everything and those forced to evacuate their homes; the firefighters and first responders risking their lives; and the millions forced to inhale smoke with every breath.

    • We urge everyone in the path of the wildfires to stay safe and heed the warnings of local officials.

  • The science is clear, and these deadly signs are unmistakable — climate change poses an imminent, existential threat, and has made these fires worse.

    • But just like with COVID, Trump ignores the science and experts, endangering American lives.

    • Once again, Trump fails his most basic duty to this nation — he fails to protect us. We are not safe in Trump’s America

  • Trump has denied the reality that is climate change and its effect on wildfires.

    • Trump denies that climate change is the cause of worsening fires, despite the clear and overwhelming evidence.

    • Trump instead blames California’s forest management and “explosive” trees, despite the fact that most of California’s forests are federally managed.

    • Trump threatened to withhold federal aid from California for combating wildfires.

  • Joe Biden knows we must act now to defeat the climate crisis. His climate plan will:

    • Build a 100% clean energy economy — creating 10 million jobs

    • Invest record amounts in research and innovation — more than we spent to put a man on the moon

    • Build a more resilient infrastructure, more efficient power grid, and 500,000 public charging stations for electric cars

5. Unemployment Claims Rise in Trump’s Recession

  • Trump’s economy is working for his rich friends and big corporations, but American workers have been left behind.

    • Millions have lost their jobs — and with it their pay, health insurance, and the dignity of work.

  • Nearly 1 in 5 workers (29 million Americans) are receiving unemployment assistance.

    • For 25 weeks, more workers have filed unemployment claims than any week during any previous recession.

  • It didn’t have to be this bad but Trump purposely downplayed this virus.

    • More than 13 million Americans are out of work

    • More than half the jobs lost haven’t come back

    • Trump is on track to be the worst jobs president in recorded history

    • More than 100,000 small businesses have closed for good, and 60% of closed businesses are closed for good.

  • Trump and his Republican enablers in Congress are blocking real relief for American workers. Instead of taking bold action, Senate Republicans voted on a bill that doesn’t do enough to fight the virus, abandons state and local governments struggling with the fallout from the pandemic, and ignores families facing hunger and homelessness.

  • Workers deserve a president who will put them first. Biden and Harris know we can’t just go back to the way things were before the virus — we have to build back better. They’ll create millions of good-paying, union jobs and reward work, not wealth.
