1. NEW: First Presidential Debate

The first presidential debate will be held tonight at 9 p.m. ET at Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH. Throughout the night, the DNC will forward talking points and press releases from the Biden campaign, and fact check Trump at @DNCWarRoom.

  • During the debate, Vice President Biden will speak directly to the American people about:

    • His plan to contain COVID-19

    • How he’ll build our country back better

    • His plan to give working families and small businesses a fair shot

    • Making the super-wealthy and corporations pay their fair share

  • Trump needs to answer for his lies and failures.

    • Trump lied about COVID-19 and how deadly it is

    • Trump doesn’t have a plan to contain the virus

    • 200,000 Americans have died and 26 million are receiving unemployment assistance

  • While Trump repeats false attacks, Biden will focus on the issues keeping voters up at night:

    • Small businesses closing and reduced hours at work

    • Aging parents who are especially vulnerable to COVID-19

    • How to help their kids with remote school while working

    • That getting COVID-19 could give them a preexisting condition

  • Our expectation is that the moderator will ask the tough questions Americans are asking at their kitchen tables.

    • Americans are worried and scared for their future, tired of all the fighting, and looking for a leader to bring Americans together. Biden will show that he is that leader.

2. Trump’s Tax Returns Show His Disdain for Working Americans

A bombshell report from the New York Times showed Trump didn’t pay any federal income taxes for 10 years between 2000-2015, and only paid $750 the year he was elected president and his first year in office.

  • While hardworking Americans played by the rules and paid federal income taxes, Trump paid $0 for years and only $750 in 2016 and 2017.

    • Trump paid far less than the average teacher, firefighter, or nurse.

  • Trump sees the world from Park Avenue. He looks out for his rich friends and corporate CEOs but looks down on workers and middle class families struggling to get by — just look at who he’s helped in office.

  • Trump’s made it easier for the 1% and big corporations to get out of paying their fair share.

    • 83% of the benefits from Trump’s tax scam will ultimately go to the wealthiest 1%, and big corporations have already raked in billions.

    • 100 of the most profitable corporations paid zero taxes after Trump’s tax bill.

    • Now, Trump’s proposing yet another tax cut for super wealthy investors that won’t help middle-class Americans.

  • Trump’s done almost nothing to help working people get ahead. He’s even refusing to negotiate critical economic relief to help working families get through this pandemic.

  • Biden sees the world from his hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania. He knows what it means to work hard, and what working people go through to make ends meet. He’s running for president to help all Americans, not to pad his own pockets.

3. Nomination of Amy Coney Barrett & Future of the Supreme Court

  • While Republicans and Trump have dragged their feet getting relief to the millions of Americans affected by COVID and Trump’s recession, they are rushing to confirm a new justice because they want to overturn the Affordable Care Act.

  • Trump’s nominee has a track record of ruling against health care, voting rights, workers rights, and more. This nomination risks:

    • Americans’ health care and protections for people with preexisting conditions

    • Women’s right to reproductive health care guaranteed by Roe v. Wade

    • The right to vote

    • The right to clean air and clean water

    • The right to equal pay for equal work

    • Workers’ right to collectively bargain

    • DREAMers’ ability to avoid deportation

  • The Supreme Court will hear Trump’s latest attempt to tear down the Affordable Care Act just one week after the election.

    • If Trump succeeds, his Supreme Court justice would likely help overturn the ACA, 20 million people could lose their health insurance and as many as 133 million Americans with preexisting conditions will lose coverage protections.

    • Trump still has no plan to replace the ACA or protect Americans’ health care.

  • Americans are voting for president in a majority of states — with a million votes already cast — and they deserve a say in who selects a successor to Justice Ginsburg.

    • Never before has a Supreme Court Justice been nominated and installed while a presidential election is already underway.

    • The American people deserve to be heard, especially when health care for millions, in the middle of a pandemic, hangs in the balance.

    • The majority of Americans agree — as many as 6 in 10 want the winner of the election to select Justice Ginsburg’s replacement.

4. 7 Million Americans Infected After Trump Lies About COVID-19

  • Trump lied to the American people and downplayed the coronavirus for months, and now more than 200,000 Americans are dead and 7 million are infected.

    • Hundreds of Americans are dying every day, but Trump has dismissed the death toll, saying, “It is what it is.

  • Even as Democrats offer to compromise, Trump is refusing to sit down to negotiate relief for the millions of Americans affected by COVID and his recession, while rushing to confirm a new Supreme Court justice because he wants to overturn the ACA.

  • Trump is on tape admitting that he knew early on that the virus was “deadly,” but that he was “playing it down.”

    • As Trump lied to the American people, he told the truth to Washington insiders — that the coronavirus is “more deadly” than the flu and that it was airborne and highly contagious.

  • And a former senior White House aide confirmed what we know — Trump put his reelection ahead of the health and safety of the American people.

    • Trump rarely attended task force meetings, contradicted his health officials, and wasted months to slow the virus, which “cost lives.”

5. 5 Weeks Until Election Day, 1 Million Votes Have Been Cast

  • It may be 36 days until November 3, but one million votes have already been cast and a majority of states are already voting.

  • Go to today to check your registration status, learn how to register to vote and what choices you have to cast your ballot, and find out where and when to vote.

  • Join the record number of new voters registering to vote in states across the country.

    • Democrats are out-registering Republicans across the country, including in key battleground states like Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.

  • A record number of voters have requested mail-in ballots in numerous states — with Democrats far in the lead.

  • Voters in nearly a dozen states are already voting in person, with huge turnout.
