MESSAGE OF THE DAY

1. Biden Won the Competing Town Halls

  • Last night, there was one leader and one liar.

  • Vice President Biden demonstrated leadership and gave thoughtful answers to voters' questions about COVID-19, taxes, racial equity, climate change, and more.

    • He talked in depth about his policy proposals to reward work, not wealth, and invest in infrastructure and the clean energy jobs.

    • He connected with the voters in the audience and directly addressed their concerns.

    • Even after the town hall ended, Biden stayed to talk to the voters in the audience and discuss the issues their families are struggling with.

    • Biden’s fundamental character and decency shown through once again.

  • Trump was combative and lashed out at voters.

    • He again refused to denounce the QAnon conspiracy theory that his own FBI calls a domestic terror threat.

    • He lied about the effectiveness of masks, when in reality universal mask wearing could save nearly 100,000 lives over the next three months.

    • Even as the U.S. had the most new cases in a single day since late July, he continued to downplay the virus and said we are “rounding the corner.”

    • He refused to confirm if he took a coronavirus test before the first debate or answer when his last negative test was before testing positive.

    • He made it clear that he is $400 million in debt but wouldn’t divulge who he owes it to, despite promises to do so.

  • Working families across the country are facing challenges from the pandemic to the recession to health care. They deserve a president who will address their needs. Biden demonstrated that he will be that president.

2. Trump Lies To Americans as U.S. Hits 8 Million Coronavirus Infections

This week, the DNC War Room released a new television ad, “Tested Positive,” that highlights how, even after contracting the coronavirus, Trump continues to put lives at risk by ignoring experts, holding superspreader events, and lying to the American people.

  • Trump is endangering Americans by continuing to lie about COVID-19 while restarting potential superspreader events.

    • Trump is still attacking mask wearing and lying about its effectiveness, even though universal mask wearing could save nearly 100,000 lives over the next 3 months.

    • A recent report revealed Trump’s administration told the truth to their rich friends and donors while lying to Americans about the dangers of COVID.

  • Trump is attacking and silencing scientists.

  • Trump called off relief negotiations that would have helped small businesses, schools, struggling families, and unemployed workers.

    • Yesterday, Trump admitted he is delaying relief to working Americans because of his “pride.”

    • McConnell said Senate Republicans did not support any large deal.

NEWS OF THE DAY

3. Senate Hearings on Nomination of Amy Coney Barrett

  • Senate Republicans are rushing a Supreme Court confirmation to take health care away from millions of Americans and overturn Roe v. Wade.

    • The majority of Americans believe the winner of this year’s election should select Justice Ginsburg’s replacement. More than 22 million Americans have already voted.

  • Barrett’s record makes clear she would vote to strike down the Affordable Care Act and Roe v. Wade, stripping health care from millions.

    • If Trump succeeds and Barrett helps overturn the ACA in a case being heard in four weeks, over 20 million people could lose their health insurance and as many as 133 million with preexisting conditions will lose coverage protections.

  • The vast majority of Americans (74%) think Republicans in Congress should be focused on COVID relief for struggling families rather than this political and rushed power grab.

  • Trump’s nominee has a track record of ruling against health care, voting rights, workers rights, and more. This nomination risks:

    • Americans’ health care and protections for people with preexisting conditions

      • Barrett could not cite a single time she argued in favor of the ACA — she has only ever argued that it should be overturned.

    • Women’s right to reproductive health care guaranteed by Roe v. Wade

    • The right to vote

4. 18 Days Until Election Day, 22 Million Votes Have Been Cast

This week, the DNC released new, state-specific voter education videos featuring former President Barack Obama, encouraging Americans to visit IWillVote.com to learn about options to cast their ballot and to make a plan to vote today.

  • While it is 18 days until November 3, 22 million voters have already cast their ballots — 15% of the total ballots cast in 2016 — and millions more are voting every day.

  • Go to IWillVote.com today to check your registration status, learn what choices you have to cast your ballot, and find out where and when to vote.

  • Democrats have out-registered Republicans across the country and narrowed Republicans’ voter registration advantage is battleground states like Arizona and North Carolina.

    • Today is the deadline to register to vote in Nebraska by mail or online.

  • Democrats have a lead in ballots cast so far — we have requested and returned 50% more ballots than Republicans.

    • More than 272,000 North Carolina voters cast their ballots during the first day of early voting yesterday, far more than in 2016.

    • In Georgia and Texas this week, voters broke records for the number of ballots cast on the first day of early voting — with more than 1 million votes cast so far in Texas alone.

    • Democrats far outpace Republicans in early votes in battleground states including Pennsylvania, Maine, Iowa, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, and Colorado.

    • Today, early voting starts in Washington.

  • The Biden campaign has launched the biggest voter protection program in history: thousands of staff on the ground, lawyers, and poll watchers throughout the states to ensure every eligible voter can vote.
